Sarah Kasper: Social Media Specialist

When Sarah Kasper came to speak to the class it was a breath of fresh air. She has been my favorite guest speaker so far because she had a similar college experience to me. She started off with a degree in education, but decided that it wasn’t for her at the last minute. She talked about the struggles she had after graduation of finding her dream job after graduation, but quickly realized that her dreams are constantly changing. Her inspirational introduction led into her discussion of what she does at her job. She is a social media specialist for an online mortgage company. Sarah told us about the lessons she has learned about representing a company on social media. She said that there is a lot that you can and cannot say online, and that everything you put online must be your own work. I think this is important for snowboarding companies to consider because consumers tend to like brands based on their originality. Another thing Sarah mentioned to keep in mind was the importance of content calendars. A snowboarding company may want to consider content calendars so they can plan what they are going to post and be more aware of upcoming holidays or events that may help them sell a product.

My favorite thing that she told the class was that it is okay not to have everything planned when you graduate. As a graduating senior who has no idea what they are going to do after graduation, this was a nice reminder. I may not have a job lined up yet, but I know the right job will come, I just have to be patient.
